Episode 61 - Glory Days of Gold (Nothing To Shout About)
Monday Oct 25, 2021
Monday Oct 25, 2021
Welcome to Episode 61 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast.
What a difference a week makes. Lee, Gordon, and Doug are back to pick over the bones of another away defeat for East Fife. This was a second half shellacking at Montrose that sucked every part of last week's feelgood factor out of Fife fans. Where did it go wrong? Where was last week's spark? Can anything be done to fix the mentality of the team that look beaten as soon as they go one behind? Is all hope lost or was there enough from last week's win over Cove that keeps some semblance alive?
The guys discuss how Darren Young still has a job and why the board aren't acting or communicating with the fans about the current situation. Plus they delve into a very bulging mailbag to answer some listeners questions - what would they do to change things up if they were appointed the new bosses overnight, when will the next away win come, how do you fix the mentality at the club?
Plus the big elephant in the room comes to the fore again - is there any different way forward for East Fife unless there's a change of ownership and by that we mean the real ownership of the club? Can it ever change, who would want to take the club over, and are we even a desirable option for someone?

Welcome to Episode 60 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast.
Lee, Gordon, and James are back to pick over the bones of what's felt like a rarity this season, an East Fife win! The Bayview Boys came away 4-2 winners at home to Cove Rangers and the guys look back at all the big talking points coming out of the match. Where did this performance come from? Can they keep it up and build on this? And how do you pick a 3-2-1 when the whole team played so well?
We chat about all of that, chat about the return of Ryan Wallace, and take a look at the lie of the land around League 1.

Lee, Gordon, and Scott are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's latest loss, the 2-1 defeat at Falkirk. It was a far better performance, and the team even took the lead, but it was a fourth straight defeat and they're now five points adrift at the bottom of the table after just nine games.
With East Fife now having played everyone else in the division once, the Scottish League One season is a quarter of the way through, so the lads do a Q1 review, come up a with a list of names to replace Darren Young, if he ever leaves, and the latest 'Let's All Laugh At'.

Welcome to Episode 58 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast record across two continents.
Lee, Michael, and Gordon are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's latest loss, the 2-0 home defeat to Clyde. It wasn't all doom and gloom this week, but the end result was still the same, three very important points lost and the team remain rooted at the foot of the table, already seven points adrift of safety after just eight games.
We look at the positives, but have to touch on the many negatives as an impotent attack continues and lazy defending cost the Fife dear. Will this now be the end of Darren Young? Can the team get any players in before the loan window closes? And just how big a mess are they in right now, is there a way out, or would a season dropping down a league actually be good for the club?
We talk about all of that and more.

Lee, Michael, Doug, and Gordon are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's latest loss, the 3-0 defeat away to Airdrie. So what went wrong this week? Did the early red card play a part of were we simply not at the races? Can they turn things around or is this finally the end of the Darren Young era at Bayview?
We talk about all of that and more, including poor defensive play, the lack of midfield fight, the impotent attack, and the importance of what is now nothing short of a must win game against Clyde next Saturday.
This may all sound like last week's show, but we assure you, it's a new episode!

Lee, Doug, and Gordon are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's capitulation to Dumbarton on Saturday. The Sons of the Rock went nap and the Fife defence went to sleep at set pieces as Dumbarton ran out easy 5-0 winners. It was another rough outing that sent the team back to the foot of the table. Where did it all go wrong and where does the blame lie? How can the team's away performances be so bad, so often? Were there any positives that can be taken from the game? And how can/will the team respond? The guys chat about all of that and a lot more besides.
Three episodes ago we called the show "What Time Is It?" after the 5-2 shellacking by Cove Rangers. After giving up another five of the worst, is the answer to that question that it's time for manager Darren Young to go or can he turn things around? Who should replace him? Does it matter if the budget isn't there to take the team to the next level? The guys discuss it all and the fans have their say in this week's mailbag.

Lee, Doug, and James are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's important 3-0 win over Peterhead. A poor first half performance was soon forgotten as the Bayview Boys turned on the style. The guys look at the high points, the low points, and ponder whether the team has finally turned the corner this season or whether the weaker opposition and riding their luck doesn't really tell the full story of what's ahead.
Plus they look ahead to next week's cup tie, delve into the mailbag with some listener's questions, and chat about some of the funnier aspects from football this past week.
Come for the football chat, stay for the nautical puns!

Welcome to Episode 54 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents.
Lee, Michael, Doug, and Gordon are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's latest loss, a 2-0 home defeat to table topping Montrose. After a promising start, heads went down when the team went one behind, and they went out with a whimper.
We look at the highs and lows, discuss the lack of fight and leadership in the team, and ponder the future of Darren Young. Can he turn the team around? Does he need an influx of players? Is either of those possible? We chat about all of that and more, and look ahead to a massive match next week at home to Peterhead.

Welcome to Episode 53 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast record across two continents.
Lee, Michael, Doug, and Scott are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's latest loss, a heavy 5-2 shellacking at Cove Rangers. Just how bad was it? Did anyone come away from the game with pass marks? Where do the team go from here and when does the panic button get pressed?
We chat about all of that plus try and a find a solution to getting torn apart on both wings and to get us some much needed midfield presence. But it's not all doom and gloom (just mostly!) as we look back at the midweek cup win against St Johnstone B and two new additions to the East Fife squad that can't come into the team quick enough going on the last performance.
We also take a look around some of the funnier aspects of football from the past week and our Wavelength section returns with a song from Irish band My Brother Woody that will pretty much sum up the mood among the Fife fanbase right now.

Welcome to Episode 52 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast.
East Fife are still looking for their first win of the season after a 3-1 loss at Alloa Athletic on Saturday, but they can take a lot of positives from the performance and there's definitely stuff to build on for the long season ahead.
Lee and Gordon are joined by James Smailes this week to chat about all the highlights and lowpoints from the match, the high ticket price to not only attend but to watch the stream online, and what the team can take out of the match going forward.
We also look back at a busy week of news down Bayview way as Tony McMinn moves on for work reasons and is replaced by the experienced Stephen Frail as assistant manager, and the club add forwards Kyle Connell and Jamie Semple to their squad.
We also take a look around some of the funnier aspects of football from the past week, chat about Scottish clubs overspending and the disaster that is surely waiting to happen, and we're joined by Liam Thomson to talk about his new Ultimate East Fife FC Quiz book.
