Episode 67 - Glory Days of Gold (Not A Christmas Cracker)
Monday Dec 27, 2021
Monday Dec 27, 2021
Welcome to Episode 67 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents.
Michael, Lee, and Doug are back with their last episode of 2021 and the year ended in as disappointing a manner as you'd expect with how the last 12 months have played out down Bayview way.
A depleted injury and Covid ravaged East Fife side headed north on Boxing Day and put in a battling performance but fell to a 4-2 defeat to league leaders Cove Rangers. You couldn't fault the performance from the team and their fighting spirit but it was always going to be a tall order to get anything from the game, even with a full squad at their disposal.
We look at the highs and the lows from the loss, but should the game have even gone ahead to begin with? And with teams throughout the SPFL being hit hard with Covid, is it time to draw up new rules for what happens when clubs have an outbreak and games are in doubt?
Looking ahead to 2022, can East Fife avoid the drop? It's seeming more and more likely that they're in a two horse race with Dumbarton to avoid automatic relegation and that a playoff spot may be the best they can now salvage. But stringing a winning run together could change that outlook. How possible is that and what does Stevie Crawford need to do and who does he need to bring in to make that even a possibility?
We look at all of that and a lot more, including delving into a bulging mailbag.

Welcome to Episode 65 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents.
It's been a big week or so down Bayview way. A cup exit at the hands of a Junior side, the return of a previous manager to the helm, and his first match in charge saw a battling come from behind point earned. There's a lot to delve into and Michael, Lee, Doug, and Gordon do just that in this episode.
East Fife's Scottish Cup loss to Banks o' Dee was a sickener. How much of a shock was it though, and now that our proud record of never having lost to a non league side has been blown out of the water three times over the past five years, where does this latest defeat sit in the lows of the club's history?
East Fife were looking for a new boss before that loss. How much did it hurry up the need for a replacement? Either way, a new man is now in the hot seat and that man is Stevie Crawford, who returns to the club for a second spell as manager after more than a decade away.
What can we expect from Crawball II? How much has he developed as a manager since he was last at Bayview? Was he the right man for the job? And most importantly, can he save the Fife from relegation? The guys chat about all of that and a lot more, plus break down the highs and lows from his first match back in charge, a home draw with Alloa.

Welcome to Episode 64 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents.
It's been a big weekend down Bayview way. A disappointing loss at Clyde saw East Fife cut five points adrift at the bottom of the Scottish League One table. That result on Saturday proved to be the final straw for the board and Fife boss Darren Young was relieved of his duties on Sunday after over 1600 days in charge.
Michael, Lee, and Doug are joined by Scott Inglis from the East Fife Mail to chat about the weekend's developments and look ahead to the future.
Was this the right time to pull the trigger on Young after a second half capitulation in such an important game or had the team shown signs of turning the corner? Can a new boss come in and turn things around to stave off relegation? Who should that man now be?
We chat about all of that and a lot more, including a look back at Darren's time at the helm at Bayview and the importance of this next appointment to the future of the club.

Welcome to Episode 63 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast.
Lee, Doug, and Gordon are back after a week off and there's been an interesting couple of matches for East Fife since the last show, with a battling draw at Queens Park and a narrow 1-0 loss at home to league leaders Airdrie.
On paper, two good performances, but how much hope can we take from them? Who stood out? Have the club turned a corner? Where are the concerns still lying? Do the fanbase have faith restored in Darren Young at the helm?
Ultimately the team is still bottom of the table and in a relegation battle, making next week's match with Clyde absolutely massive. Can the black and gold survive? We chat about all of that and a lot more, including our forthcoming live Q&A with the legend that is Steve Archibald.
And there's still time to chat about Scotland reaching the World Cup qualifying playoffs. Are we heading to Qatar?

It's a depleted squad this week, bit Lee and Gordon don't care about that as they've got another East Fife win to chat about. The Jekyll and Hyde Fifers forgot to drink their medicine and it was the good guys who won the battle at Bayview, coming away with a 2-1 win over Dumbarton that sees them edge ever closer to crawling off the bottom of the division.
Now the glass half empty amongst you may point to Dumbarton being depleted themselves, but you can only beat the team in front of you and East Fife did that on Saturday afternoon, albeit with some late heart palpitating moments to close out the match.
The guys delve into all the high and lows, the standout players, and what this might mean for the games coming up after some recent yo-yo performances. Plus we delve into the mailbag and chat about some of the other talking points around Scottish football this week.

What a difference a week makes. Lee, Gordon, and Doug are back to pick over the bones of another away defeat for East Fife. This was a second half shellacking at Montrose that sucked every part of last week's feelgood factor out of Fife fans. Where did it go wrong? Where was last week's spark? Can anything be done to fix the mentality of the team that look beaten as soon as they go one behind? Is all hope lost or was there enough from last week's win over Cove that keeps some semblance alive?
The guys discuss how Darren Young still has a job and why the board aren't acting or communicating with the fans about the current situation. Plus they delve into a very bulging mailbag to answer some listeners questions - what would they do to change things up if they were appointed the new bosses overnight, when will the next away win come, how do you fix the mentality at the club?
Plus the big elephant in the room comes to the fore again - is there any different way forward for East Fife unless there's a change of ownership and by that we mean the real ownership of the club? Can it ever change, who would want to take the club over, and are we even a desirable option for someone?

Lee, Gordon, and James are back to pick over the bones of what's felt like a rarity this season, an East Fife win! The Bayview Boys came away 4-2 winners at home to Cove Rangers and the guys look back at all the big talking points coming out of the match. Where did this performance come from? Can they keep it up and build on this? And how do you pick a 3-2-1 when the whole team played so well?
We chat about all of that, chat about the return of Ryan Wallace, and take a look at the lie of the land around League 1.

Lee, Gordon, and Scott are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's latest loss, the 2-1 defeat at Falkirk. It was a far better performance, and the team even took the lead, but it was a fourth straight defeat and they're now five points adrift at the bottom of the table after just nine games.
With East Fife now having played everyone else in the division once, the Scottish League One season is a quarter of the way through, so the lads do a Q1 review, come up a with a list of names to replace Darren Young, if he ever leaves, and the latest 'Let's All Laugh At'.

Welcome to Episode 58 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast record across two continents.
Lee, Michael, and Gordon are back to pick over the bones of East Fife's latest loss, the 2-0 home defeat to Clyde. It wasn't all doom and gloom this week, but the end result was still the same, three very important points lost and the team remain rooted at the foot of the table, already seven points adrift of safety after just eight games.
We look at the positives, but have to touch on the many negatives as an impotent attack continues and lazy defending cost the Fife dear. Will this now be the end of Darren Young? Can the team get any players in before the loan window closes? And just how big a mess are they in right now, is there a way out, or would a season dropping down a league actually be good for the club?
We talk about all of that and more.
